## What happened

Ignite began in 2011 as Ignite100, a Newcastle pre-seed accelerator that invested in cohorts of early-stage tech companies and later ran programmes in Manchester and London. Its company, Ignite 100 Accelerator Corp Limited, was incorporated in July 2013\. By the 2020s Ignite had moved from an equity-investing model to delivering publicly funded support: its North East accelerators from 2022 to 2024 were funded by the North of Tyne Combined Authority through the Digital Business Pipeline project, with alumni such as Gridfinder, SQCDP and MarTech Polybox. In July 2024 Ignite announced that the August-September 2024 cohort would be the final programme under that funding, and the eight-company cohort closed on 30 September 2024, with the team saying it was exploring other ways to support founders. The company remains on the register and continues to file accounts, but no subsequent programme has been announced.

## Why

- Could not raise the next round

## What happened to the assets, customers and team

Final NTCA-funded cohort completed in September 2024 with a San Francisco investor trip; Ignite reported alumni had raised over £200m and achieved £100m of exits, and the organisation has not announced a successor programme.

## In their words

> We are looking for ambitious founders ready to advance their fundraising efforts and start scaling their businesses

## Lessons

Regional accelerators that shift from equity to grant-funded delivery become dependent on the next public contract; when the Digital Pipeline money ended, so did the programme.
