## What happened

Oxbridge Ltd, trading as Oxbridge Home Learning, sold accredited distance-learning courses from GCSEs and A-levels to childcare, counselling and animal-care qualifications, supported by online tutors and marking. Founded in Birmingham in 2015 by Matt Jones, it claimed more than 100,000 learners and was a regular in BusinessCloud's EdTech 50 rankings until 2024\. In August 2025 the company filed notice of intention to appoint administrators and marketed the business for sale as a going concern. No suitable buyer was found for the organisation as a whole, and on 1 October 2025 Rebecca Dacre and Guy Hollander of Forvis Mazars were appointed joint administrators, citing significant cash-flow pressures; eleven staff were made redundant. Tutor support, marking and accreditation ended, leaving students with self-study access to materials until mid-2026\. Press and reviewers reported that the website continued to advertise and take payments after the appointment, causing confusion and refund disputes among learners.

## What happened to the assets, customers and team

Forvis Mazars were appointed administrators on 1 October 2025 and 11 staff were made redundant. The administrators reportedly sold the business and assets, including learning materials, website and domain names, to two purchasers, one of which trades as Home Learning Ltd; students lost tutor support and accreditation and were told they could not be issued certificates by the company in administration.

## Lessons

A subscription-style course business that collects fees upfront carries an obligation to deliver tutoring and exams for years, so a cash-flow squeeze quickly becomes a consumer-protection problem. Continuing to sell courses online during a sale process, without telling learners, turned the administration into a reputational collapse as well as a financial one.
