## What happened

Trojan Energy was set up in Aberdeen in 2016 by former oil and gas engineers to build on-street EV chargers that sit flush with the pavement when not in use, aimed at households without driveways. It worked with several English councils and had installed around 1,500 charge points, most of them in London. In January 2024 it raised a £26 million round from BGF and the Scottish National Investment Bank to scale manufacturing and the network. By early 2026 it could not secure the further funding its growth plans required; after exploring strategic and investment options the directors concluded a solvent outcome was not achievable and appointed Interpath as administrators on 9 February 2026\. The business and assets were sold immediately through a pre-pack to Urban EV Infrastructure Limited, a subsidiary of Connected Kerb, with all 63 staff transferring.

## Why

- Could not raise the next round
- Hardware capex before product-market fit

## What happened to the assets, customers and team

Geoff Jacobs and Alistair McAlinden of Interpath were appointed joint administrators on 9 February 2026 and sold the business and assets the same day to Urban EV Infrastructure Limited (Connected Kerb) for an undisclosed sum. All 63 employees transferred and Connected Kerb said it would keep the existing charge points running and fold the Flat & Flush products into its range. The company remains in administration, extended in September 2026.

## In their words

## Lessons

Charging hardware is capital-hungry twice over: product development and network roll-out both need funding before utilisation revenue catches up. A £26 million round in 2024 bought roughly two years; when the next cheque did not arrive the only solvent-adjacent exit was a pre-pack to a better-funded competitor.
