Blockchain.com began in 2011 as a bitcoin block explorer and self-custody wallet and has grown into a broad crypto platform offering retail wallets, an exchange, institutional trading and lending, and more than 20 products. The company states that over 95 million wallets have been created on its platform and that more than $1.2 trillion in volume has moved through it. Backers named on its site include Vy Capital, GV, Lakestar, Lightspeed, DST Global and Baillie Gifford, and a 2021 round reportedly valued the business at around $5.2bn. It is led by co-founder and chief executive Peter Smith, with co-founder Nic Cary as vice chairman, and is widely counted among the UK's crypto unicorns.
