A Liverpool-based not-for-profit fund that finances small and medium-sized businesses in the Liverpool City Region and the wider North West of England, with funds historically managed by its subsidiary River Capital. It has backed more than 2,000 businesses with around £163m.
Funding has ranged from small loans to equity of £2m or more for start-ups, expansions and management buy-outs. Debt is now its main activity, and MSIF has said management of its next equity fund, expected in 2027, will be put out to external tender. It also supports the Finance Hub and the Gateway Angel Network.
