Mater-AI is a UK materials discovery start-up developing new thermoelectric materials, which convert waste heat into electricity or provide solid-state cooling without refrigerants. It combines AI, physics-based and quantum modelling with lab validation through partners including the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London and the Henry Royce Institute, aiming for materials that outperform current options without toxic or rare-earth elements. Early targets include thermoelectric generators for defence, automotive and industrial IoT. Founded in 2023, it raised a £1.5m pre-seed round led by Twin Path Ventures in December 2025.
