NANOncolytics is a University of Sheffield-linked biotech developing nanoparticle technology that encapsulates oncolytic, cancer-killing viruses. Wrapping the virus in a nanoparticle is intended to let it be injected into the bloodstream rather than directly into a tumour, opening up treatment of tumours that are hard to reach. Cancer is its lead application, but the team says the encapsulation platform could also be applied in agritech, food, cosmeceuticals and pharmaceuticals. The company is at research and development stage and is seeking partners and investment.
