AlveoGene develops inhaled gene therapies for rare respiratory diseases. It holds an exclusive licence to the InGenuiTy lentiviral delivery platform, built over more than a decade by the UK Respiratory Gene Therapy Consortium with around £72 million of grant funding, which is designed to give long-lasting gene expression in the lung and can be re-dosed. Its first candidate, AVG-001, aims to treat alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. The company was created by Oxford Science Enterprises, the Harrington Discovery Institute and the University of Edinburgh's Old College Capital together with six consortium scientists from Imperial, Oxford and Edinburgh.
