Old College Capital is the University of Edinburgh's venture investment fund, set up in 2011 with backing from the University and its endowment and managed within Edinburgh Innovations. It invests in deep tech, high-growth companies associated with the University, from pre-seed to Series A.
Typical cheques range from £50k to £250k, and it co-invests alongside other investors rather than funding rounds alone. Sectors include biotechnology, energy, medical technology and photonics, and its portfolio exceeds 80 companies. An independent investment committee oversees decisions, and the fund operates on a commercial basis.
