Elec Ski is building the SM1, an electric assist unit for ski touring that is used alongside climbing skins to make the ascent less tiring. The company says the device can reduce uphill effort by up to half, leaving skiers with more energy for the descent through fresh snow.
The unit bolts onto skis the user already owns, including heavier downhill models, and is compact enough to be removed and carried in a backpack at the summit. The product is currently at prototype stage and the company is collecting contact details from interested skiers. It was founded in March 2024 by Edward, an electronics engineer and BASI Level 2 ski instructor.
