What happened
Kikapay Limited was incorporated in early 2018 by Chris Moore and Philip Godden as one of the first British open-banking payment initiation services, letting merchants and charities take account-to-account payments instead of card payments. It raised seed money, including a 2021 round promoted through angel networks, but never reached the scale needed to compete with larger open-banking platforms. In January 2024 the founders announced on LinkedIn that the company's journey had come to an end, and on 16 January 2024 Douglas Pinteau and Dermot Coakley of WSM Marks Bloom LLP were appointed joint liquidators after shareholders resolved to wind the company up voluntarily. The company was dissolved on 27 August 2025.
