CuspAI is a Cambridge company using generative AI and simulation to design new materials on demand for industrial customers, with early focus areas including carbon capture, energy and semiconductor applications. Founded in 2024 by chemist Chad Edwards and machine-learning researcher Max Welling, it combines its own models with automated lab validation. In July 2026 the company raised a $450m Series B co-led by Kleiner Perkins and NEA, with Bezos Expeditions, Glade Brook, Lux, AMD Ventures and the UK Sovereign AI Fund joining existing investors such as Temasek and Northzone, at a $2.6bn valuation. Alongside the round it launched the AI Materials Foundry, a partner network of more than 45 organisations including NVIDIA, Meta, Samsung and Hyundai.
